Real-life English Tips: How to Write a Good Resume
 
Finding a new job can be hard!

Finding a new job is even harder if you are still learning the language and the culture of the country in which you are applying for a job.
 
We want to help you find a great job!! So we have put together some tips and advice on what you SHOULD and SHOULD NOT do when applying for a new job in an English speaking country.
 
So, before you email your resume to that dream job - read our list of "DO'S" and "DON'TS" to make sure that your application will succeed!!

DO research what is expected in a Resume/CV in the country you are sending it to.

DO use short paragraphs (no more than five or six lines each).

DO type your Resume/CV so that it is easy to read.

DO use simple English - a potential employer should easily understand what you have written.

DO proof read before sending. Correct mistakes, and rewrite anything that could be confusing.

DO list appropriate interests only. Research what is 'appropriate' in your chosen country.
DO list relevant achievements only. Research what is 'appropriate' in your chosen country.
DO give a copy of your Resume/CV to every person that you name as a referee.
DO include a short, simple cover letter.

DO translate your Resume/CV into the native language of the country you want to work in. If you are not a speaker of this language, make sure that you state this clearly on your Resume/CV.

DON'T use difficult words on your Resume/CV.

DON'T include information that is not clearly related to your professional skills.

DON'T forget to include both your phone number and mailing/email address.

DON'T use professional jargon, slang, colloquial terms, or unclear abbreviations.


DON'T lie about speaking languages that you do not speak or understand.
DON'T apply for a job in a country in which you do not want to live.

DON'T book an interview in a country that you cannot get to. If necessary, ask to have the interview over the phone or internet.

DON'T include any personal information (age, weight, etc.) unless it is standard in the county in which you are applying for a job.

DON'T assume that an employer in another country 'will never know' if you lie about work experience or qualifications.

DON'T assume that all employers will understand job titles that are well known and understood in your country. Define and explain what you did in these positions.
